Circé, fille d’Hélios et de l’Océanide Perséis, apparaît principalement dans le chant X de l’Odyssée d’Homère :

“Bientôt nous arrivons à l’île d’Éa, où habite Circé à la belle chevelure ; Circé, vénérable déesse à la voix mélodieuse : Circé, sœur du puissant Éétès. — Circé et Éétès naquirent tous deux du Soleil, qui donne la lumière aux hommes, et de Persée, fille de l’Océan.”

Elle y est présentée comme une femme fatale qui se sert de ses pouvoirs et de ses philtres pour corrompre Ulysse et ses hommes. Circé continuera d’ailleurs d’apparaître comme telle dans les formes ultérieures de ce mythe.

Dans la version que nous vous présentons ici, le récit est conté du point de vue de Circé, en se plaçant du côté des femmes confrontées à la violence de la domination patriarcale.

Le scénario de Richard Marazano et le dessin réaliste de Gabriel Delmas revisitent ce mythe et lui redonnent modernité, puissance et actualité.

Alberto was born in Ecuador and has worked as a freelance artist ever since moving to New York City as a teenager. He is the founder, president, and editor of BrandStudio Press, Trinquétte Publishing, and Xupuy Editions and has spent more than 30 years in the fields of Illustration, animation, and graphic design in the United States as a production artist and art director. As a freelance designer, he has worked most notably for DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Nickelodeon, Hallmark Entertainment, VIACOM Networks, New York Magazine, and others.

Although the bulk of his life’s work has taken place in the areas of commercial illustration and graphic design, Alberto is best known for his figurative art. His first book: “Bocetto” The Art of Alberto Ruiz was published globally by Heavy Metal Magazine in 2007 and he has contributed as a writer/instructor to "Draw Magazine”, an illustration how-to magazine, where he has penned articles and tutorials about digital illustration from 2004 to 2006.

About the book:

The book is packed with sketches and fully finished artwork, exceptionally created in traditional mediums. It is a collection of works and it contains selected art from over 10 years. In several chapters, Alberto shows some of his favorite pieces, personal approaches and tells some anecdotes about the creation of his artworks. A word about the artist:

Stefan Koidl is a freelance illustrator and Krampus mask carver living in Hallein, Austria. He worked as a freelancer for multiple clients such as Dark Horse Comics LLC., Hi-Rez Studios, Ravensburger, Rhino Games Inc; Adreama Games, to name a few.

I love to draw images that tell a story, and I believe that paintings should evoke a viewer’s feelings and make them think. I especially like to paint creepy and dark stuff — I find it thrilling to “play” with a viewer’s fear.

CODEX Obscurus est un splendide artbook présentant le travail de 145 artistes internationaux. Leurs œuvres, sur le thème de la sorcellerie et de l’occulte, explorent les différents folklores de plusieurs pays et traditions.
Afin de mener ce projet à bien, notre cher Spiridon Giannakis a réuni un jury composé d’artistes des quatre coins du monde, qui ont sélectionné les œuvres publiées dans le CODEX. Nous parlons donc de Iris COMPIET, Bastien DEHARME, Justine FLORENTINO, Abigail LARSON (avec qui nous avons réalisé le beau Crimson), Yangtian LI, Angi Pauly LLOBET, Yoann LOSSEL, Thabiso MHLABA, Karla ORTIZ, Armand SERRANO et Pauline VOSS.

Spirigon Giannakis, à l’origine du projet, voulait que cet ouvrage soit le plus magnifique possible. De ce fait, la couverture, aussi bien que l’intérieur et les finitions font du CODEX Obscurus un livre unique.
Pour cela, il a fait appel à Viktor Pushkarev qui a créé tout l’univers du CODEX: que ce soit la typographie, le design de la couverture ou des prints réalisés à la main (linogravure et feuille d’or).
Le format A4 du livre, vous permettra aisément de le ranger dans votre bibliothèque. La couverture cartonnée imitation cuir est agrémentée d’un marquage à chaud, d’un bel embossage et d’une dorure subtile.
Pour ce qui est de l’intérieur, vous y trouverez 304 pages imprimées en couleur sur un papier Arctic Munken en 150g.
Les pages de droites sont réservées aux illustrations, et celle de gauches aux descriptions ou autres textes qui les accompagneraient. De la sorte, chaque œuvre d’art a son propre espace pour respirer et laisser une impression encore plus profonde sur le lecteur ou la lectrice.
